Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer diagnosed in the United States each year. There are different types of skin cancer – some are slow growing and easily treated, others are more dangerous. The most common types of skin cancer are basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. Melanoma is not the most common but it can be life threatening if not detected early. Unfortunately, the incidence of melanoma in Oregon is increasing and Douglas County has one of the highest rates of melanoma in the country. Therefore, it is important that Oregonians be educated on the signs and symptoms of skin cancer. The American Academy of Dermatology website is a wonderful resource for this.

Screening Exams

For anyone concerned about skin cancer, we offer full-body skin screening exams. For patients with a prior history of skin cancer, we recommend more routine exams with our providers. The frequency of these visits depends on the number and severity of skin cancers in the past.
